Three female African-American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn's launch into orbit while dealing with racial and gender discrimination. Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Goble Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines as the “mind” that calculated the launch and safe return of John Glenn.  In 1961 and 1962 as the US Space program was getting started with intense competition from Russia, these three unsung heroes made their contribution to US History.
